The Corinthian Challenge was an experience that cannot be bought, but achieved. I cannot do justice to articulate the whole experience. The support from the IIJ would instill confidence in me where was there was anxiety and doubt. The race is something I relive several times a day! What a dream! I would encourage anyone with even a passing interest in riding, racing or professional sports to consider the challenge. For me it provided me with my proudest days racing, in a lifetime time of days out racing.

It was a great privilege to ride in the 2018 series, raising money for a brilliant cause. The experience to ride at three of Ireland’s first class racecourses was exceptional, all my hard work, training and fundraising over the months was worth it when I had the privilege of winning the final race at Leopardstown, a day my family and I will never forget.

Taking part in the Corinthian Challenge was one of the highlights of my career, I had always wanted to be a jockey but as I grew too big, and so I had to choose a different work path. Through my work, I was able to call on the support of many in the insurance industry to take part and raise the funds and try something that had alluded me for 35 years. Riding for different trainers and getting the privilege of visiting their yards and riding out was a fantastic insight into the racing world. The excitement will live long in my memory. Thanks to all the team at the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund. Thanks also to Christy Roche, Johnny Murtagh, Jim Bolger, Dermot Weld and Aidan and Joseph O’Brien for their support.

Brilliant day, what an experience, massive fast race, stuck in the middle of the pack with hooves flying every side, lads shouting and pushing for position, amazing! No idea where I finished but you know I wouldn’t be as happy if I won the race. Super finale.
